The single contains two drones, which are integrated into the context of the album on the CD, but separated on the vinyl to achieve a good print quality. The two songs "Mladic" and "We Drift Like Worried Fire" are the final versions of the two songs "Albanian" and "Gamelan", which the band already knows from concerts. The two tracks were recorded by Howard Bilerman at the legendary Hotel2Tango studio, while the drones were recorded and mixed by the band themselves. All tracks were mastered by Harris Newman/ Greymarket. Musically, "'Allelujah! Don't bend over! Ascend!" follows up the last Yanqui U. X.O. album, released almost exactly a decade ago, and takes on its sonic aesthetic and context. A lot has happened in the last ten years, and there's neither the time nor the capacity for mythology, but one thing is clear: we'd be lying if we didn't admit that GY!BE's 2010 return was a caesura, a point of hindsight. Like few bands in recent years, the Canadians have accompanied us without being particularly musically visible. Their history is closely tied to the Constellation label, and the whole attitude, the context in which Constellation and therefore GY!BE operate, has had an influence on independent music culture around the world that should not be underestimated. And so the new GY!BE album invites a retrospective, an exploration of what independent culture and self-concept still means today, and where the socio-cultural components of our society have and will continue to evolve. In this way, "'Hallelujah! Don't bend! "Ascend!" is loaded with meaning that could hardly be heavier - and on which neither the band nor the album has any direct influence - an artistic expression that takes on meaning by its very existence - we have it, the myth, without wanting it. And we have no choice but to accept it - that this beautiful piece of music (and it is, this album - a musical masterpiece) has already become a guide to our self-understanding, a moment to stop, reflect and thus witness our own transformation, an attempt to rewrite a chapter of our own biography in this book of mostly terrible, messed up, complicated and nihilistic stories and somehow turn it into hope. Once again, GY!BE has managed to create a soundtrack for this interplay of analysis, defiance and liberation.
