What can one learn from a (rock) album whose first single "Rope" was described by (American) Rolling Stone magazine as "a hairy-testicled, devil-dicked atomic beast of a single"? Ohne Zweifel eine ganze Menge. Oder besser: ein Maximum an Lärm und Wahnsinn. Doch eigentlich sind die Erwartungen an das siebte Foo-Fighters-Album sowieso nicht mehr zu toppen. Millionen von Fans weltweit erwarten nicht weniger als ein weiteres Meisterwerk im OEuvre der wohl coolsten und größten Rockband unserer Tage. The album Wasting Light, produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, was recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Grohl's home in California's San Fernando Valley. The no-computer/no-software, back-to-basics approach resulted in arguably the strongest and most cohesive work of the band's more than 15-year career: From the first single "Rope" to the frenetic opener "Bridge Burning" to the beautifully bipolar "These Days" to the stunning guest appearances of Bob Mould ("Dear Rosemary") and Krist Novoselic ("I Should Have Known"), Wasting Light is a singular triumph: a band that has headlined arenas, stadiums and festivals around the world has stripped down to its bare essentials and come up with the world's finest hour. To coincide with the album's release, Spitfire Pictures, the documentary division of Exclusive Media Group, is producing a feature-length documentary about the Foo Fighters, directed by Academy Award-winner James Moll (The Last Days, Running Through the Sahara). Co-produced and co-financed by Exclusive Media Group and RCA Records, Moll's documentary chronicles the entire history of the Foo Fighters, from the cassette demos Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana's drummer, to their rise to Grammy, multi-platinum award and status as one of the biggest rock bands in the world. This chronicle of the Foo Fighters' triumphs and tragedies culminates in a detailed behind-the-scenes look at the making of the new album: the process by which the band moved forward by returning to their roots and recording entirely on analog tape in Grohl's garage.
