Alone in space? At least without a band It's been 14 years since the last ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) music releases. In 2015, their founder, frontman, singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer Jeff Lynne returns with new songs. "Jeff Lynne's ELO" is the name of the project, "Alone In The Universe" is the title of the album. They released their last album "Zoom" in 2001, after which there was a silence around the British rock band. It wasn't until many years later that BBC radio DJ Chris Evans invited Lynne on his show, asking him to tour again with the support of his listeners. He obliged the request and shortly afterwards, in September 2014, found himself playing a gig in London's Hyde Park. However, of the original ELO members, only Jeff Lynne and keyboardist Richard Tandy were on stage. Encouraged by the success of the gig, Lynne decided to record a new ELO album as a one-man-band, so to speak, as he plays all the instruments on it.machines, even singing backing vocals himself, with only his daughter helping him out on some songs. Since the fall of 2014, a total of ten songs have been written and can now be heard on the album "Alone In The Universe". Already in September and October, two previews, "When I Was a Boy" and "When The Night Comes", gave a good idea of the album: modern pop rock songs in the best ELO tradition. Jeff's uniquely pure voice seems to have remained completely untouched by time. That the debut single definitely shows parallels to the Beatles and his good friend George Harrison is irrefutable. For true ELO lovers, "Alone In The Universe" is also being released in a deluxe edition in addition to the LP and standard CD. The second disc includes two bonus tracks, "Faultline" and "Blue". On "Alone In The Universe", mastermind Jeff Lynne makes it clear that sometimes it doesn't take more than one person to make an impressive comeback album for a band, at least if it's a jack of all trades. Review: "Fourteen years on from 'Zoom', the last album of new songs, the brilliant blend of sound and style on the new 'Alone In The Universe' sounds as captivating as ever." (Audio, December 2015) "On the first CD since 'Zoom' (2001), the only remaining member once again delights with ELO's typical chubby, overheated sound in a majestic large format." (Stereo, January 2016)
