Multi-platinum Chicago foursome DISTURBED releases new album Asylum from the Anger on August 27 Since their debut The Sickness, frontman David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren and bassist John Moyer have infected the metal community with hits like Stupify and Down With The Sickness. Their last three albums - Believe (2002), Ten Thousand Fists (2005) and Indestructible (2008) - debuted at the top of the U.S. Billboard charts, making DISTURBED one of only six rock bands in history to have three consecutive albums top the U.S. charts. To date, the band has sold more than eleven million albums worldwide and earned its first Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the 2009 hit single "Lnside The Fire. With this success behind them, DISTURBED finally open their fifth album Asylum.Immediately after the end of the tour in the summer of 2009, DISTURBED began building Asylum and in February 2010 they finally went to Groovemaster Studios where - like the previous album Indestructible - they produced the album themselves. This album shows maturity and more complexity," explains Draiman. "Asylum is still clearly DISTURBED, of course, but it shows a clear evolution: it keeps elements of our music and takes them to a higher level."" Donegan adds: "We took our trademarks and built on them. We've always moved on with each album - Asylum is no exception." For Draiman, the duality of the title is a thread that runs through the entire album, "When you hear the word 'Asylum,' the first thing that comes to mind is a mental institution or a sanitarium. But it can also have the meaning of a safe haven - it's also called 'giving someone asylum'. This double meaning of the word is incredibly interesting, and it's also found in the title track: it's about remembering a lost love that won't let you go, and instead drives you to the brink of madness bit by bit. But at the same time, this memory is also a safe place to retreat to in times of trouble. The whole album basically reflects this idea." As the first single from the album, DISTURBED have chosen the song Another Way To Die, which combines a syncopated riff with a hypnotic melody - a very classic DISTURBED style. The theme of the song is global warming and the impact of our choices on our planet. It's the first time we've tackled this topic and we hope to raise a little more awareness about this important issue." Storytelling is also central to Draiman's work at Asylum. He says of the song Animal, "The song is huge and inspired by movies like ,,Underworld" and ,,Wolfman". It's about someone who is a werewolf and craves and enjoys the power he gains through transformation." And it's not the only song on Asylum , which has a cinematic setting, as the singer goes on to explain. "All the songs have dramatic elements of shame, loss, suffering and regret - there are no flowery themes on this album, the lyrics are less cryptic than before and instead tell stories. I felt it was just time to write this directly. A lot of the themes on the album required that approach." "This album shows who we are," Draiman sums up. We never lost our identity. DISTURBED's albums will always be rhythmic and powerful and deal with the dark side of things. Each of our albums will always accompany you on a piece of your journey and give you inspiration," he promises. Even in the case of Asylum, the muscular singer has a precise idea of what he can give the listener: "We want our fans to leave this album empowered and liberated. We hope that this music will help people cope with the craziness of today and the chaos of the world we live in."
