The Girl in the Other Room is the seventh studio album by Canadian singer Diana Krall, released on 31 March 2004 on Verve Records. In addition to cover versions, it is Krall's first album to include original material co-written with her husband Elvis Costello. On the Verve Records website, Krall explains in more detail how the songs for this album were written: "I wrote the music and then Elvis and I talked about what we wanted to say. I told him stories and wrote pages and pages of memories, descriptions and images and he put them into a tighter lyrical form. For 'Departure Bay,' I made a list of things I liked about home, things I realized were different, even exotic, now that I was gone." Her cool voice and piano artistry have taken her from a jazz luminary to an international star with gold albums and sold-out concerts over the past 20 years. Eight Diana Krall masterpieces, from an intimate trio album to a swinging big band hit, are now released on 180-gram vinyl to celebrate Verve's 60th birthday. For all Krall fans to rediscover her on the turntable, for all new vinyl fans to be introduced to her for the first time, and for all of us together to marvel at the beautiful large record sleeve: Diana Krall is unique in every way.
