Deftones: Deftones versión en CD en estándar edición. Esta edición en concreto se lanzó en Europa en la editorial Maverick el día 20. mayo 2003.
Extreme energy, uncompromising sensitivity and the overall impression of five musicians who do not resist any emotion or movement. With a sound that breaks the boundaries of an entire genre, yet meets no standards of any category, but consistently and unwaveringly goes its own way. Regardless of the number of epigones, DEFTONES are unique and unparalleled. No metal, however nu, no punk, no hard rock, but a hybrid of all - DEFTONES follow no one, they go their own way. The proof is the Sacramento band's fourth album, Deftones. In eight years, four million Deftones albums have found their way to fans, and three million fans have found their way to DEFTONES concerts. Yet they took their time: for years (since their formation in 1988) DEFTONES toured with the likes of Bad Brains, Korn, L7, Ozzy Osbourne and Quicksand before releasing their hungry debut Adrenaline in 1995. Around The Fur followed in 1997, a purely hard-hitting DEFTONES album that, like its predecessor, was produced by Terry Date (White Zombie, Soundgarden, Pantera). After that, the sound was embellished: one of the first hard rock bands to hire a permanent turntable/keyboard/sampling specialist, Frank Delgado added another sonic richness from White Pony (2000), which added another dimension to the brutal power of DEFTONES. The decision proved to be a wise one: White Pony easily reached platinum status in the USA and was awarded a Grammy, the album reached number 11 in Germany and spat out the singles Change (In The House Of Flies) and Back To School. The surprisingly straightforward title Deftones marks the core of what DEFTONES bring to the album: on the one hand, solid DEFTONES material that makes them unmistakable and gives them great recognition value, on the other hand, another step into the abyss of sonic fusion. A track like Hexagram assaults the auditory nerves with massive guitar fronts and a jagged structure that has its roots deep in hardcore and plunges far into an infinite space of transparent textures. The path leads into the undergrowth, an angle of emotional depth that opens up at abrupt turning points in the song's structure. Minerva is not much different, forming a seemingly completely harmonious structure, but one that is interspersed with full brakes that cause the walls of sound to crumble due to sudden moments of calm. Songs like Good Morning Beautiful and Battleaxe are no less massive - an eternal cycle between tension and release, contraction and expansion, stability and collapse. Signs of DEFTONES' inexhaustible power. And indeed, after months of touring, DEFTONES weren't so much suffering from exhaustion as overheating. "We couldn't sit still," says Stephen. "We've had a lot of creative busyness on tour. You can't just turn that off. We tried to relax and live like normal people, but we couldn't. We forgot how to do it." "We tried for three months," Chino interjects. "Then boredom got the better of us, and we were writing songs and hanging out in The Spot studio. And we knew something was up.""Working in the studio is like touring for us," explains Abe Cunningham. "We have the same focus and the same energy. It's been three years since White Pony was released and we were under a lot of pressure to follow it up. We ignored that. We felt when the time was right." In the summer of 2002, recording began at The Spot, again with producer Terry Date, who had also turned previous DEFTONES albums into monoliths of wall-of-sound. DEFTONES now have months ahead of them, which they will spend on tour. Among other things, they will perform at the Rock am Ring / Rock im Park festivals from June 6 to 8, which they are looking forward to with great motivation: 'We are a band. We eat, sleep and play together. And people are the same all over the world. The music is the same in all languages. It's still the same party everywhere. It's just that sometimes the journey is further..."
