Warner's Wonderful World of Opera: Five New Complete Recordings in the Home Of Opera Edition The Home Of Opera series brings together gems from the archives of Warner, EMI and Erato. Each individual episode of the series features the most important interpretations. Each title features milestones by legendary singers and conductors - as well as five new additions featuring masterpieces of opera from the Baroque to the 20th century. William Christie's 2004 recording of Handel's opera Serse was a highlight of his discography. The mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter in the title role was particularly praised. The recording is one of the finest documents of Handel's rediscovery as an opera composer. Antonio Pappano's Trittico with Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Alagna is in every respect a brilliant interpretive achievement by one of the greatest Puccini conductors of our time. Gershwin's Porgy and Bess with Simon Rattle on stage (and long unavailable!) also documents the ideal combination of style and performer - Rattle, after all, is regarded as a brilliant explorer of American music. Two legendary catalogue gems are Herbert von Karajan's Pelleas and Melisande and Jerzy Semkow's Prince Igor. Karajan, with Frederica von Stade and Richard Stilwell, achieved a magical sonic revival of Debussy's Impressionist work shortly before his death. Semkov, who in 1966 engaged such greats as Boris Christoff, brings with him the Russian heritage that the Polish conductor acquired from his stepfather, Yevgeny Mravinsky.
