Brian Eno's musical novelty Brian Eno returns in 2016 with a new album. "The Ship" is the title of the long player, for which the musician was inspired by, among other things, the Titanic disaster. This is Eno's first solo album in four years. He last collaborated with Underworld member Karl Hyde on several albums together. Unlike Eno's last solo album "Lux" (2012), which was a purely instrumental work, "The Ship" again features various vocals in the foreground. This is the first time since "Another Day on Earth" (2005) that Eno sings on a solo album. In total, "The Ship" consists of only two tracks, but together they have a playing time of over 47 minutes. The first track is the 21-minute title track, and the second track is the three-part suite "Fickle Sun", which Brian Eno split into "Fickle Sun", "The Hour Is Thin" and "I'm Set Free". The first part of the cycle contains a poem read by British actor Peter Serafinowicz. It was created using a Markov chain generator, a software program into which Eno entered various words or lyrics, such as news about the Titanic, military songs from World War I, or warnings about hackers. The program then spat out thousands of verses, some of which Eno combined into a poem. The last part of the suite is a rendition of the Velvet Underground classic "I'm Set Free". According to Eno, the song is even more relevant today than when Lou Reed wrote it. "The Ship" is available in a variety of formats, including standard CD and LP, as well as a limited collector's edition. With his new album, Brian Eno confirms that he has always been rightly described as a musical innovator. In "The Ship" he combines literature and music in a unique way.
