Jon Bon Jovi recorded them again with his full live band consisting of Tico Torres (drums), Everett Bradley (drums), David Bryan (keyboards), Hugh McDonald (bass), Phil X (guitar) and John Shanks (guitar). John Shanks and Jon Bon Jovi handled the production themselves. The content of "Bon Jovi 2020" revolves mainly around current events, politics, but also themes such as love and loss. According to the band, the 59th U.S. presidential election, which makes this a particularly important year, also played a role in the choice of title.
