Harpist Xavier de Maistre proves on his new album that it is not only technically possible, but that it works fantastically with other pieces by the greatest Slavic composers. His versions accurately capture the character of works by Smetana, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák and Prokofiev, and are also sonically very beautiful: Dvořák's so-called "American" Suite, Op. 98, the popular "Dance of the Plum Fairy" from Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker", excerpts from Prokofiev's famous ballet music "Romeo and Juliet", as well as original compositions and arrangements of well-known melodies by Glinka (Nocturne), Khachaturian (Oriental Dance), Liszt (Nightingale) or Liadov, sound as if they were composed especially for the harp.
