Quality and harmony in Anathema Last winter, Anathema returned to Attica Audio studios in Donegal, Ireland, to work on new songs and then record them live. They finished the songs with producer Tony Doogan at Castle Of Doom studios in Glasgow. The result is their new eleventh studio album, "The Optimist", the follow-up to 2014's "Distant Satellites". On it, the British alternative rockers revive their own past. In terms of cover art and content, it follows the album "A Fine Day To Exit", which was released in 2001. The title of the first song, "32.63N 117.14W", thus gives the coordinates of Silver Strand State Beach in San Diego, the last known location of the character who disappeared on Anathema's sixth album and who can be seen on the then-current cover. The sextet previewed the album "The Optimist" back in March with the first single "Springfield". And it shows that Anathema has perfected its own melancholic style. In addition, all the energy of a live recording can be heard. In addition to the standard digipack CD and the limited double-LP, "The Optimist" is also available as an audio Blu-ray and as a set consisting of a CD and an audio DVD in a mediabook. Also of interest is a box set with CD, audio DVD and audio Blu-ray with 5.1 surround sound mixed by Bruce Soord (The Apple Thief) and bonus tracks. Anathema's 2017 live recording of their new album "The Optimist" not only proves their songwriting chops, but also their impressive interplay and band skills.
